Privacy and Data Breach Coverage - Most businesses have data breach exposures resulting from the increasing use of technology. A data breach or unintentional release of private information is occurring more frequently than ever before. Businesses are often the target of hackers. While some are targeted, other data breaches are the result of human error. For instance, while improperly disposing computers that contained customer credit card information, data was unintentionally released. In another case a hospital's patient information was sent to the wrong email address.
- Target estimates that 110 million customers have been affected by a cyber attack
- Nieman Marcus reported a three month breach that may have affected 1.1 million customers
- Michaels is reporting that criminals may have tampered with over 7,000 stores' credit devices
